Hazendal Wine Estate continues its remarkable reinvention, with a chic new destination hotel set to open on this historic South African wine estate in 2023. Set alongside the world-class 18-hole par-3 golf course, and overlooking a picturesque reservoir and the Bottelary Hills, the elegant Hazendal Hotel will further enhance the palette of experiences available to guests at Hazendal.

Our new luxury hotel is the perfect complement to our existing offerings, which will cater to both leisure and corporate travellers,” says Simone Voloshin, marketing director of Hazendal.
The Hazendal Hotel will offer 34 rooms and suites, all set around a central courtyard, with room categories ranging from interleading Luxury Rooms to opulent Junior Suites boasting private terraces and plunge pools.
The hotel’s flagship Presidential Suite will offer impressive levels of luxury, with a decadent 122 square metres of living space. In addition, a large outdoor deck and living area, complete with a private pool, ensure an opulent escape for discerning travellers.
The interleading Luxury Rooms create a welcoming haven for families, with both teen and toddler recreation spaces available for the younger guests. The adjacent acclaimed Wonderdal Edutainment Centre will be offering a supervised, unforgettable experience for children between the ages of 5 and 13.
Alongside the contemporary rooms and suites, the Hazendal Hotel will include a purpose-built function and events facility capable of hosting up to 200 guests, creating an additional destination for corporate conferencing, product launches and private events. With its idyllic wine estate location, the Hazendal Hotel is also set to become a sought-after destination for glamorous weddings and landmark celebrations.
While Hazendal Wine Estate has already become established as a memorable culinary destination in the Stellenbosch Winelands, the Hazendal Hotel will feature its own dedicated restaurant and bar, along with an elegant cigar lounge.
Adjoining the hotel will be a new Pro Shop for the golf course, allowing guests to walk directly from the hotel onto the course.
The hotel will also introduce an exciting new wellness offering to the estate by offering four tranquil treatment rooms – one of which can accommodate couples’ treatments – alongside a dedicated mani-pedi studio, relaxation space and a health-focused ‘dry bar’ offering restorative non-alcoholic refreshments.
To ensure a world-class hospitality experience, Hazendal has appointed the acclaimed Mantis Collection – recently acquired by Accor, the French multinational hospitality company – to operate the Hazendal Hotel. Founded in 2000 by visionary conservationist Adrian Gardiner, the Mantis Collection operates 18 carefully curated properties across eight countries, each focused on delivering experiential hospitality within the context of sustainable travel.
Carefully integrated into the natural topography of the site, a considered architectural approach has allowed for a double-storey hotel to be built without affecting the historic character of the estate.
Located alongside the existing Babushka Deli and Marvol Gallery, which are housed in buildings dating back to 1781, enormous effort was taken to ensure the contemporary structure of the new hotel integrates seamlessly within the historically important Werf precinct.
“From a heritage perspective, it was important that we don’t dominate those existing buildings,” says Lee-Ann Adendorff, architectural team leader at architectural firm, Boogertman + Partners. “The hotel continues along the same visual line, matching the same height and proportions as the existing buildings running toward the dam.”
Sustainability has also been built into the very design of the hotel, with utility spaces and non-guest areas facing west, to act as an insulation buffer to the harsh western sun. In addition, the use of skylights and other architectural elements enhance the use of natural light, while solar glass has been treated with low-emission glazing to improve the energy efficiency of the building.
The Hazendal Hotel is due to open to guests in the fourth quarter of 2023.
