Pondo trail run returns for 2025 – An unforgettable journey for a cause

Pondoland, South Africa – The PONDO Trail Run is back for 2025, once again inviting trail runners to experience one of the world’s last untouched coastlines while making a tangible difference in conservation and community upliftment. Taking place from 28th May to 1st June, this exclusive event will see participants traverse the remote and rugged northern section of the Wild Coast – a region renowned for its dramatic cliffs, unspoiled beaches, and extraordinary biodiversity, with over 150 plant species found nowhere else on Earth.

Hosted by Wild Child Africa, the PONDO Trail Run is a three-day journey of exploration and immersion in this breathtaking landscape. Runners will once again gather at the Wild Coast Sun for registration, where they will also drop off donations for our Gift of Warmth initiative — donating winter essentials to the local communities through our ongoing partnership with the resort.

Beyond the adventure, the heart of this event lies in its fundraising efforts. The 2024 edition raised an impressive R435,000, directly benefiting our two key partners: the Pondoland Conservation Trust, which works to uplift Pondoland’s local community, and Cipla’s Miles for Smiles initiative, which funds life-changing corrective surgeries for children with cleft conditions. This past year, the Wild Child Africa team had the privilege of attending an Operation Smile surgical mission in Mthatha, witnessing firsthand the incredible impact of these efforts. In 2025, we aim to raise even more to extend this legacy of giving.

“The PONDO Trail Run is more than just a race—it’s a rare opportunity to run through landscapes few ever get to see, while leaving a lasting impact on the communities and ecosystems that make this place so special,” says Matt Botha, Founder of Wild Child Africa. “Every year, we are blown away by the generosity of our runners, sponsors, and supporters, and we can’t wait to build on that success in 2025.”

Returning sponsors Brooks, Devil’s Peak Beer, and Sealand Gear will once again be spoiling participants and helping to ensuring a world-class experience both on and off the trails.
