Entries for the TRACN4 Elands Marathon are filling up fast!

Entries for the 2025 TRACN4 Elands Marathon are fast running out, with hundreds of road runners already securing their spots in Mpumalanga’s fastest and most breathtaking Comrades and Two Oceans qualifier.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Maputo Corridor, this premier event is proudly backed by Trans African Concessions (TRAC) and will take place on 1 March 2025. The main event, a thrilling 42.2km marathon, will set off from Laerskool Oosterlijn in Emgwenya (Waterval Boven), promising an electrifying start to the ultimate endurance challenge.

Organised by the esteemed Nedbank LVCC Running Club, the marathon is a must for athletes aiming to qualify for the prestigious 2025 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon and this year’s Ultimate Human Race – Comrades. Known for its fast yet testing downhill sections, the TRACN4 Elands Marathon is renowned for attracting top-tier runners determined to smash their qualifying times for South Africa’s elite ultra-marathons.

This exhilarating event caters to all fitness levels, featuring a 21.1km half marathon and a 10km race. The half marathon will commence from the Malaga Hotel on the N4, while the 10km race will start and finish at the Sappi Skills Training Centre. Both the 21.1km and 42.2km races will conclude at the scenic Sappi grounds.

Legendary water points

Since its revival in 2022, one of the race’s standout features has been its legendary water points. Runners can expect nothing less than world-class hydration and refreshment stations, with most previous waterpoint hosts returning to their usual spots to combat the Lowveld’s notorious March heat.

“For the past three years, our water points have been rated as some of the best in terms of Lowveld road races, and we’re committed to keeping up this tradition. We will have fully stocked and manned water points, packed with snacks and cold beverages to keep runners energised throughout the race,” says race director, Mandla Nxumalo.

“We know that hydration and support stations are critical to any marathon’s success, which is why we go the extra mile to make sure they exceed expectations.”

Due to the nature of the Elands Valley route, seconding will not be permitted at any point during the race. Assisting runners on a national road of this magnitude presents severe road safety risks and endangers both participants and water point teams. Any athlete found receiving outside assistance will face immediate disqualification.

TRACN4 Elands Marathon Expo @ Millys

Adding even more buzz to race weekend is the highly anticipated 2025 TRACN4 Elands Marathon Expo @ Millys. This event, sponsored by Astron Energy Mpumalanga North Marketer, will take place on 28 February from 11h00 to 20h00. Held at the iconic Millys rest stop along the Maputo Corridor, the expo will be a hub of activity, featuring top industry brands, race gear, exclusive merchandise and more.

Another race entry collection point will be operational available at the Lowveld Country Club in Steiltes, Mbombela (Nelspruit), ensuring convenience for all participants.

A boost for local communities

As part of TRAC’s ongoing commitment to social investment, the marathon serves as a platform to uplift local communities and boost the region’s economy. The influx of runners and supporters provides a welcome boost to local hospitality businesses, while TRAC also creates temporary employment opportunities in the lead-up to and on race day.
