Imagine the perfect combination of South African music, heritage, food, wine and… drumming!
Well, look no further. Get ready to fall in love with South Africa (again) at the Drumstruck museum-theatre experience at the magnificent Silvermist Wine Estate in Cape Town.
Silvermist organic wine tasting
From the moment you arrive at Silvermist Wine Estate perched atop Constantia Nek, you enter a space that exudes South African warmth and hospitality.
The Drumstruck experience starts with an intimate wine tasting, facilitated by the charismatic Silvermist winemaker, Gregory Louw. The tasting includes a range of four exclusive South African wines from the Constantia Valley, and while Louw recounts stories about the wine cultivars and the history of the area, the Drumstruck performance team entertains with song and dance. Children and non-alcoholics are treated to a delicious iced tea tasting.
The global hit interactive drum-theatre show
The highlight of the experience is Drumstruck, the internationally acclaimed drum-theatre production where every audience member gets a drum to play. Drumstruck has performed across the globe to 5-star reviews for over a decade, including an 18-month stint off-Broadway, and tours in Australia, Japan, Edinburgh and Nashville, where they shared a stage with Dolly Parton.
Audiences enter an extraordinary museum-space where one of the country’s largest collections of indigenous African instruments is displayed, and are taken on a joyous journey through the musical heritage of southern Africa: from the first drum through to the newest high-tech electronic instruments.
The rhythmic beats and explosive energy are infectious and uplifting, as audience members get involved in banging out the rhythms on their own drums.
Traditional South African braai
After the show, guests are invited to share in an optional braai – the ultimate South African culinary tradition where people from all walks of life come together to savour the flavours, connect and share stories. The braai includes three meats, traditional sides (like pap, chakalaka and garlic bread), a range of tasty salads and dessert, with available vegetarian options.
The braai takes place over lunch and in the early evening at sunset, and guests are entertained by the Drumstruck marimba band as they take in the exquisite views over the Cape Peninsula.
Fun for the whole family
Drumstruck at Silvermist offers a rare opportunity for the whole family, from the very youngest to the very oldest, to get stuck in and have some fun together. There is plenty of space for kids to run around and play on the gorgeous lawns, and Silvermist offers a relaxed environment where visitors are likely to see farm animals roaming about freely.
The programme takes place at 11h30 and 15h30 on weekends in November, and daily from December. Bookings can be made via Activity Bridge or Web Tickets.
