Azura Retreats, a boutique hotel group in Mozambique, is launching its newest property, Azura Marlin Beach, in May 2025. Located on the southwest shore of Benguerra Island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, the resort is built on the site of the former Marlin Lodge, which was destroyed by fire in 2012.
The new luxury retreat will feature 10 air-conditioned villas including six 100-square-metre Beach Villas, three larger Beach Villas Grande accommodating families, and the expansive 380-square-metre Villa Vista, complete with a private pool.
All villas feature a dedicated butler-host service and are designed to immerse guests in the natural beauty of Benguerra Island. With thoughtfully designed indoor-outdoor living areas and a relaxed aesthetic, each villa provides a perfect blend of seclusion, comfort and island elegance.
At Azura Marlin Beach, the public areas are selflessly designed to maximise the views over the stunning Indian Ocean, offering an array of spaces for guests to relax and appreciate island life.
Begin each day with breakfast at the main restaurant, transition to a leisurely poolside lunch where you can soak up the sun, and end with a mesmerising, elegant dinner under the stars. For a memorable experience, join the lively weekly Beach BBQ, a guest favourite.
Azura Marlin Beach’s main lodge will also offer a PADI 5-Star dive centre. Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities including snorkelling and diving at Two-Mile Reef, dhow sailing, deep-sea fishing and beach picnics. For those seeking more adventure, the fishing centre provides a fleet for tag-and-release fishing, including excursions for the prized black marlin for which the Bazaruto Archipelago is famed.
Visitors will also have access to the spa at the nearby Azura Benguerra Island, further enhancing the appeal of this luxury destination.
The resort’s debut is expected to attract high-end travellers seeking exceptional experiences in one of Mozambique’s most picturesque archipelagos.
