Condé Nast Traveller has announced the results of its prestigious 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards, which saw The Liz McGrath Collection’s The Plettenberg hotel, voted as runner-up in the category of Best Hotels in Eastern and Southern Africa. With a score of 98.54, it followed hot on the heels of Babylonstoren, which was placed first this year at 98.55.
The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel & Spa, sister-hotel to The Plettenberg, also retained its longstanding spot on this list of best hotels by scoring 96.50 points, which earned it 12th place in the 2023 rankings.
As one of the global travel industry’s longest running accolades, the Readers’ Choice Awards remain the ultimate symbol and acknowledgment of excellence within the travel sector. This year, more than 520 000 Condé Nast Traveller readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to offer a comprehensive look at the places they eagerly anticipate revisiting.
Jacqui Elliot, CEO of The Liz McGrath Collection, says they are thrilled with The Plettenberg’s performance over the last year. Under the leadership of general manager Melissa Theron, it has moved up the rankings from 11th place in 2022, beating stiff competition from other prominent hotels in the region to take second place in 2023, in what is known as one of the world’s most prestigious awards programmes.
The Plettenberg has direct beach access and showcases the most breathtaking vistas on the Garden Route, with views of the ocean, mountains and endless stretches of golden sand. A proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it features 35 beautifully appointed guest rooms including 12 Suites and two spectacular Villas.
The 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards are published on Condé Nast Traveller’s website and celebrated in its November issue.
