New riverside outdoor dining experience at Chobe Safari Lodge

Chobe Safari Lodge introduces its latest offering: an unforgettable fireside dining experience set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Chobe River.

Guests will step straight off their safari boat cruise and enjoy one last look across the Chobe River sunset from the Sedudu Bar before enjoying dinner at the new Grill. Comfortably ease into the relaxing atmosphere, unwind with a favourite drink and soak up those stunning views. But it’s not just the view that’s set to captivate diners.

As the golden Chobe sun begins its descent, the lanterns are lit and guests gather around the fire. Our culinary team has curated a menu to celebrate the rich flavours of Botswana. The most crucial element of these meals is the fire. Most traditional food in Botswana is cooked over the flames, and these dishes are no different.

The Sedudu Grill experience has a distinct flavour, with everything cooked over local hard mopane wood. Guests can choose from succulent cuts of meat, espetada beef, wrapped line fish, smoky lamb, marinated chicken skewers and boerewors (sausage) sizzled on the grill. Flavourful vegetarian dishes include tofu-stuffed roasted pumpkin, charred corn, traditional morogo spinach, creamy samp, chakalaka and more. Hearty stews, samp and sadza maize promise to warm the soul – and over on the cold buffet, salads and starters provide a fresh side. And no meal would be complete without a visit to the dessert table, where a tempting selection of sweet treats awaits: Southern African classics include milktart, sticky baked pudding and more.

“We are thrilled with the new outdoor restaurant set up at our favourite Sedudu Sunset Bar,” say James and Diane French, the general managers of Chobe Safari Lodge. “Our new outdoor dining option offers breathtaking views of the Chobe River, and we’ve worked tirelessly with our executive chef Kagiso Hlabano and his skilled kitchen brigade to refine the grill menus so our guests can enjoy the best flavours of Africa. These concepts are all complemented by tableside service provided by our food & beverage manager Onale Thagame’s talented team.”

The Sedudu Bar and Grill is an easy walk from Chobe Bush Lodge, and is also open during the day for coffee, toasted sandwiches, pizza, and brownies to finish.
