N4 Constuction projects progressing well

Trans African Concessions (TRAC) takes pride in being the concessionaire of the Maputo Corridor and is committed to keeping the entirety of this international route in pristine condition and on par with world standards.

For this reason, we continuously implement construction projects along the route. These not only allow us to conduct road maintenance and rehabilitation of what already exists, but also provides the opportunity to do major upgrades such as building additional lanes on the road as well as the construction of interchanges and bridges.

The major construction projects currently underway on the N4 Route:

Bossemanskraal Intersection to the Mpumalanga border (N4 – 2km 46 to 55)

Rehabilitation and new asphalt overlay of Section 2f, including the construction of a new eastbound climbing lane

Commencement date: April 2023

Expected completion date: September 2024

Progress of completion: 98%

Traffic accommodation: Single lane closures

Main contractor: ACTOP

Wonderfontein to Belfast (N4 – 5km 10.8 to km)

Rehabilitation and new asphalt overlay of Section 5a

Commencement date: July 2022

Expected completion date: December 2024

Progress of completion: 72%

Alkmaar to Hall’s Gateway (N4 – 7X km 26.5 to 48.0)

Rehabilitation and new asphalt overlay of Section 7b

Mataffin to Crocodile Valley (N4 – 7X km 46.89 to 58.79)

Upgrading, rehabilitation and new asphalt overlay of Section 8b, which includes the upgrading of Boschrand Interchange and providing additional passing lanes

Kaalrug Intersection to Kruger Gate/TSB Interchange (N4 – 8X km 15 to km 25.2)

Upgrade of Section 13, which includes the widening of the road to two lanes per direction

Tchumene Interchange to Matola Mall (EN2 km 26.6 to 35.7)

Widening to two lanes per direction and the construction of service roads on both sides of the EN4 in Section 17

Commencement date: August 2022

Expected completion date: December 2024

Traffic accommodation: Single lane closures on service road

Tchumene Interchange to Matola Mall (EN2 km 26.6 to 35.7)

Milling and replacing with new asphalt overlay
