One of the leading hotel groups in the country, ANEW Hotels & Resorts, continues to push the boundaries in the local hospitality industry. ANEW has recently partnered with the new and proudly South African wine range, Sinbad Wines, where their range of wines will be available to enjoy at all ANEW Hotels & Resorts restaurants and bars.

ANEW Hotels & Resorts have had a phenomenal past two years, having opened multiple hotels throughout the country during the Covid-19 pandemic and growing from just managing three properties to 14, with more property growth expected in 2022. Most recently, the group expanded its property portfolio to the Western Cape by rebranding to the ANEW Hotel Green Point, previously known as Vib Best Western Hotel in Green Point.

As a business, ANEW Hotels & Resorts is centred around old-fashioned values. They conduct their business with Honesty, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence and Courage (HITEC), and they expect their partners to share these values. ANEW continually looks for businesses and brands to partner with who share these aligned values and beliefs.

Enter Sinbad Wines. From the golf terrain to a wine and hotel partnership, Sindile “Sinbad” Kama, the co-founder of Sinbad Wines, is perhaps more prominently known for being the owner of 50 On Gugs, a vibey, chilling Tshisanyama in Gugulethu, Cape Town.

In 2019 he birthed the idea of starting a wine brand with the desire to leave a legacy for his family.

Sinbad’s friend and Storners/Western Province rugby player, Scarra Ntubeni, introduced him to JP Quickelberge, who has an entity that looks after over 150 wine cellars in the Western Cape. “He has a deep knowledge of the wine industry – from logistics to the tasting to managing how the deals can be done,” Sinbad shares. Together Sinbad and JP are both co-founders of the wine brand.

JP Quickelberge

Prior to the house wine venture beginning, he met Alan Campbell, ANEW Hotels & Resorts Sales & Marketing Director, while attending a golfing event about six to seven years ago.

“I’m a golf fanatic, he plays golf too, so we met at Vodacom Origins of Golf,” says Sinbad. “We kept in touch lightly as we were in the same circles on social media. When I launched Sinbad Wines last year, he was like, ‘Yoh boet, you’re doing things.”

Sinbad says the conversation led to him offering Alan two bottles of wine for the tasting, which of course, left a lasting impression. “The rest is history,” Sinbad chuckles.

""

Patrons wishing to soothe out their palate while basking alongside the pool have the option of choosing between either the Sinbad Shiraz 2018 and Sinbad Sauvignon Blanc 2020, with more varietals being developed soon. The future could see a potential rosé and bubbly in the works.

Says Alan, “We want to support South African entrepreneurs that are forging new paths in the hospitality industry. Sindile is one of those entrepreneurs that inspires belief, and the Sinbad range of wines are a reflection of Sindile’s commitment to South African excellence.”

Guests visiting the hotel are reminded about the ANEW Rewards loyalty programme designed to reward returning and regular guests at all properties.

""

The more you stay, the more you earn. How? By getting discounts on direct bookings and earning Wena Bucks with every stay, which you can use towards future stays, food and beverage orders, amongst others. The rewards member benefits include early check-ins, late check-outs, welcome platters, hotel room upgrades (subject to availability), discounts on the best available rate and exclusive competitions and special offers.

Sinbad Wines are available from 1 April 2022 to enjoy at all ANEW Hotels & Resorts restaurants and bars.
