Yellow New7Wonders of Nature frame unveiled on Table Mountain

Visitors to Table Mountain will now have even more to look forward to when they reach the summit. Earlier today (Friday), the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) celebrated Heritage and Tourism Month with the unveiling of a yellow New7Wonders of Nature frame at the summit of Table Mountain.

The idea of installing seven yellow photoframes across the city bowl was borne out of Table Mountain’s global recognition as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature back in 2011. A World Design Capital 2014 legacy project saw the design and installation of seven frames dotted across the city, each giving locals and tourists the perfect spot to capture their memories with Table Mountain in the background.

This New7Wonders of Nature frame is located next to the Shop at the Top, and is the only one in Cape Town that offers a framed view of the city from the top of the mountain itself, making it a one-of-a-kind experience for both locals and visitors. It also restores the total number of New7Wonders of Nature frames to seven, after replacing the one previously located at Cape Town Station Forecourt.

“This New7Wonders of Nature frame is more than just a structure, it’s a marker of Table Mountain’s place in our history and in our hearts. It gives visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to frame Cape Town from the top of one of the New7Wonders of Nature, something you cannot experience anywhere else,” said Wahida Parker, managing director of TMACC, at the unveiling.

Parker explained that the installation of the yellow New7Wonders of Nature frame will hopefully encourage even more local residents and visitors to enjoy the richness of the province’s tourism offering, especially in September.

Tourism remains one of the Western Cape’s biggest economic drivers, contributing nearly 10% of the province’s GDP – highlighting the importance of attractions like Table Mountain in creating jobs and boosting local businesses.

“Heritage and Tourism Month is about accessibility and inclusivity. With our Local is Lekker – the Heritage Edition special and our interactive Castle Heritage Braai Day on Table Mountain activation (on 24 September 2025, we’re creating opportunities for all South Africans to celebrate our cultural pride – and with the holiday season approaching, there’s no better time to tick Table Mountain off your bucket list,” added Parker.

Visitors can now head up the Cableway and capture a brand-new view of Cape Town through this New7Wonders of Nature frame – an experience you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

Heritage and Tourism Month at TMACC is also filled with special experiences and offers:

· Local is Lekker – the Heritage Edition special designed to make visiting the mountain more accessible for South Africans throughout September.

· Castle Heritage Braai Day on Table Mountain – Join us for this fun activation on Heritage Day (from 11h00 – 17h00) in order to receive a complimentary beer (for individuals who are 18 years and older) or a soft drink and boerewors roll. Visitors can take part in this exciting activation by collecting an activation card as they board the cable car at the Lower Station. They then have to complete each activity listed on this card at the Top Station. Once all tasks are done, participants can head over to the Twelve Apostles Terrace (below the Shop at the Top and the New7Wonders of Nature frame)) to enjoy a complimentary boerewors roll and a beer or a refreshing soft drink. Participants must be 18 years and older.
